The Sketch in Color, Robert S Oliver
Found this great drawing book. I want to draw like this. I copied this drawing but I am going to learn to do this. Got it on the net from ABE books. Published in 1983. My new drawing hero, Robert S Oliver.
Your work is coming on in leaps and bounds. I too started painting looking at two of my favourites, Van Gogh and Modigliani. I have a huge Modigliani nude in the sitting room and forgot about it until two young guys came round to fix the Sky box the other day. Poor chaps.
Don't know if you are aware of this or not. Bob passed away Friday after a battle with cancer. Bob was my friend in art-a true inspiration to us all- he will be missed. Judy Lawson

Thanks for letting me know Judy. 90 years is a wonderful run. As you know I have his The Sketch in Color and just today I got his The Sketch. In my opinion they are the best. He has given great pleasure to thousands of people around the world. Don McNulty

Thank you for sharing. I am Robert Oliver's youngest son and inherited his great talent. It was sweet to see you bring life back into his work. He has since passed on, however your posting was shared with the entire family and we were touched. I was actually with my parents on their many travels displayed in the book. Dad would plop down in a strange town and start to sketch, drawing crowds, laughter and smiles. Just like the ones you put on my face.

Thanks, appreciate your comments. I like your favourites also, perhaps the Sky box guys did as well.

Garo - I have his books, beyond that I know nothing.
Ron - That is a picture of me, not Robert S Oliver.
If u find a picture let me know thanks anyway

I agree with your opinion that Robert S Oliver is inspirational. I have his book "The Sketch". Looking for more!
